NPCA’s Clean-ups to Broaden Focus to include GRAFFITI
Many in our community have gotten tired of the ugly, sprawling graffiti that seems to be increasing on our homes, alleys, businesses and public spaces. As mentioned at the NPCA Annual Meeting, the NPCA Clean-Up crew is broadening our focus to tackle cleaning up this graffiti problem as well. We have two clear goals: - Document and remove the more than 1,000 pieces of graffiti with a massive paint-out event sponsored by large businesses, frustrated local businesses and North Park homeowners.
- Create a long-term, manageable solution that gets North Park residents and businesses working with the Police Department and others to keep the offenders off our streets and ensures timely removal of new graffiti.
A big part of these efforts is making sure everyone knows the simple, safe steps we can take on our own streets. For example:
Even if you paint over graffiti yourself, get a professional estimate to provide the police…when they catch the offenders, the damage estimate enhances prosecution. ALWAYS document and inform the police. They can only do something if we let them know it’s there. If you do happen to see graffiti in progress, NEVER confront them, these people can be very dangerous. Instead, observe their clothes and the location and—once safe—immediately call and report the information. The NPCA will be working to make it easier for you to take these steps and to get the graffiti off our homes and businesses.
