The Five Pillars of Service PDF Print E-mail

 The North Park Community Association can be said to be based on Five Pillars of Service to North Park. The North Park Community Association (NPCA) offers many fulfilling benefits, tangible and intangible, to community members. If you are seeking to learn about North Park, to participate in social activities, to support local businesses, to maintain the best of our neighborhoods and to change those parts that need improvement, NPCA offers a variety of means to do so.


The First Pillar is the North Park History Committee, actively educating our citizens on North Park's historical value and advocating for our community's historic preservation which includes:

  • "Once Upon A Time" articles in the North Park Newsletter
  • The designation of "Dryden Historical District"
  • Oral Histories of North Park
  • Documentation of Notable Commercial Buildings
  • The release of the new book, North Park: A San Diego Urban Village, 1896-1946
     

The Second Pillar is providing Community Entertainment and Facilitating Business and Social Networking in the community which includes:

  • 5 Summer concerts at Bird Park (located at 28th Street and Upas)
  • Participation in the annual North Park Toyland Parade
  • Partnering with North Park Main Street in an annual Holiday Party
  • Monthly First Fridays in the neighborhood
  • Quarterly Mixers at local Restaurants
  • Acting as a referral source to promote and support local businesses


The Third Pillar is promoting Community Enhancement and Neighborhood Pride which includes:

  • Bi-Monthly clean-ups in North Park
  • The Annual Renaissance Awards in North Park
  • Rebuilding Together


The Fourth Pillar is Community Advocacy which includes:

  • Representation on the MAD committee (Maintenance Assessment District)
  • Representation on the Redevelopment PAC (Project Area Committee)
  • Representation on the AEWG ( Alcohol & Entertainment Working Group)
  • Representation on the DPWG (Drug Paraphernalia Working Group)
  • Representation on the PMG (Parking Management Group)
  • Representation on the Garage Art Group
  • Representation on the North Park Action Team
  • Representation on the North Park Recreation Council
  • Acting as a liaison between the community and other Govt. agencies
  • Taking timely action when key issues arise that impact the community


The Fifth Pillar is providing the community a Communication Portal which includes:

  • Bi-Monthly Newsletter
  • A Dynamic Community Website
  • Timely email communication that imparts what is going on in the community
