April 26th Neighborhood Clean-up a part of Creek-to-Bay event

The NPCA and North Park Main Street got together again on April 26th as part of the neighborhood’s own solution to keeping North Park a great place to live and improving the environment. This time around, neighbors volunteered as part of a larger, county-wide effort, the Creek-to-Bay clean up (www.creektobay.org), a biannual event chaired by the folks at I Love a Clean San Diego.

Here in North Park, we had more than two dozen volunteers who came out to help get trash off of our streets and out of our alleys. The youngest volunteer hadn’t hit her 12th birthday and the oldest walked the neighborhood sweeping up trash many don’t think about. In less than 3 hours we gathered up over a 1,000 pounds of environmentally-unfriendly waste! If you’d like to see an interactive map of the streets and alleys your neighbors covered, click here.

• Tell your landlord we will work WITH her so that departing tenants have a place to discard items responsibly, and give them Omar's email ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it )
• Volunteer for 60 minutes during a clean-up…they only happen every other month!
• Let a friend borrow your truck to help out if you can’t make it to a clean-up
• Pick up in the alley behind just your home for 5 minutes each week.

These small steps can have a great long-term benefit to your block and our neighborhood as a whole.  We would also like to give a special thanks to the folks at Florencia’s Pizza, who co-sponsored the event and helped reward the volunteers with a free lunch!
